Conclusion The SO could be transformed to valuable tools for instruction for senior undergraduates to the first year graduate students of oceanography as well as references of researchers who are interested in oceanography around Japan if extensive revisions are made. First, present format of explanation limited to each sheet is highly inadequate as the comments stated above indicate. A separate text of explanations is necessary. Second, ground truth of almost simultaneous nature should be compiled from available data of SST, GEK and other hydrographic observations, which might be most abundant near Japan among the world oceans. Third, overlays should be made on images about flow patterns, water-cross boundaries, fronts etc, even if these are subjective in interpretation. Fourth, it is useful to arrange the imagery in some coherent order such as IR, IR with currents, CZCS or in locations from south to north, small scale to large scale or vice versa. |
