In this note, we consider a single unit system that should operate over an infinite time span. It is assumed that shocks occur in random times and each shock causes a random amount of to a unit. These damages are additive, and a unit fails when the total damage has exceeded a failure level K. We consider preventive maintenance to recover the cumulative damage before system failure. We assume that the shock process is independent of system maintenance and system replacement can not affect the shock process. We compare tour typical policies for preventive maintenance (PM) by numerical examples: Time-based PM. number-based PM. damage-based PM, and modified time-based PM. |
