Title
An Holonic Approach For The Modelling Of Enterprise Functionality And Behaviour
Abstract
The description of enterprise functionality and behaviour has been a major aspect of the methodology accompanying architectures for enterprise modelling. The modelling of functionality and behaviour has been predominantly achieved through the modelling of business processes. This paper introduces and describes an approach to the modelling of enterprise functionality and behaviour based on holonic concepts. The methodology, which will offer an extension to the scope of current modelling architectures, is focused on the holon as the functional entity representing a unique combination of resource and employee in the enterprise. In addition to the capture of normal operation, a major emphasis is on the study of contingency situations in a company. This has allowed the representation of employee roles in an enterprise model where the modelling constructs autonomy, cooperation and control are built around the holon for the capture of employee activities and interactions. A further feature in the capture of functionality is the modelling of decisions using GRAI-Net constructs. These concepts are demonstrated through an example of a small company, which relies heavily on the flexibility and initiative of employees in terms of normal operation and in response to disturbances to the business.
