Title
A Simple ATM Switching Architecture for Broadband-ISDN and Its Performance
Abstract
Because of the unscheduled nature of cell arrivals to an ATM switch, two or more cells may arrive on different input ports in one time slot and destinated to the same output port. The ATM switch may allow one or more of these cells to pass through the switch in parallel to reach the output port, the others have to be queued for later slots or have to discarded dependent on buffer schemes. In the literature, there are several cell selection policies (e.g. longest queue(s) selection and random selection). In this paper, we propose a new ATM switch architecture named Simple ATM Switching (SAS) together with a cell selection method. The SAS switch may be considered as an output buffer, space-division and address filtering, nonblocking and single stage ATM switch according to the paper [1][2].
