An attempt was made to investigate the effect of the target orientation on pointing performance. An experiment was accomplished in which 10 subjects performed three-dimensional aiming tasks under the manipulation of target orientation, distance to target and direction to target. Results show that target orientation affects the duration of three-dimensional movements significantly. As a result, the conventional movement model did not satisfactorily explain the variance in the movement times produced. The conventional model was employed by incorporating an oriented parameter into the model. The modified model was shown to better fit the data than the conventional model, in terms of r2 between the measured movement time and the value predicted by model fit. |
