Title
Tool Wear Investigation Using SEM 3D Reconstruction Technique
Abstract
The 3D reconstruction of scanning electron microscope (SEM) combining digital speckle correlation method (DSCM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were introduced to investigate the wear of cutting tool. The tool wear morphological analysis for flank wear and crater wear were carried out based on the SEM 3D reconstruction. The wear loss depth was detected by comparing the wear surface to its reference surface which was obtained by using least square method. An indentation with known 3D construction was used to vaLidate the calculating results, and the results were well consistent with the principle of constant volume. It is concluded that the SEM 3D reconstruction combining DSCM is reLiable on wear observation and presents great advantages in real engineering appLications.
