Title
Rough Surface Modeling Using Surface Growth
Abstract
In this paper, we present a novel modeling method forsynthesizing rough surfaces using discrete surface growthmodels. We employ a two-pass method. Initial point clusterdata is generated using discrete simulation models derivedfrom physical surface growth and evolution. Then, a finalsurface is reconstructed from the point clusters by a levelset method. Since many rough surfaces in nature are formedby deposition and diffusion processes, discrete models simulatingthese processes can reasonably reproduce naturalrough surfaces. These discrete models are easy to implementand efficient enough for interactive control. After generatinginitial data set from the application of a discretemodel, a level set method is used to obtain implicit surfacerepresentations. This approach allows us to easily handlecomplex surface topologies. We demonstrate that our approachallows a flexible and general way to create variousrough surfaces.
