It gives me a great pleasure to help edit this special issue of QUESTA honoring Professor Prabhu. I have a special relationship with him: I did my doctoral work under his supervision at Comell. The main idea behind this issue was to request Professor Prabhu's many students to contribute research articles for it. Ms. Kathy King of Cornell University was kind enough to supply me with a list of his Ph.D. students and their addresses. Unfortunately some of these addresses were out-of-date, and since we wanted this issue to be a surprise to Professor Prabhu, we could not ask for his help in locating his students. As a result, we were never able to get in touch with some of his students. I apologize to those students who were not contacted about this project. On a personal note, Professor U.N. Bhat's article provides a glimpse of Professor Prabhu as a person, friend, colleague and mentor. Among the eight research articles included in this issue, six have at least one author who was Professor Prabhu's student. The other two articles come from researchers who are his co-workers and colleagues, or whose research has been influenced by his work. The research articles can be grouped into four areas as follows: 1. Queueing and storage processes. |
