Title
Changes in submerged macrophyte communities in southern Lake Garda in the last 14-years.
Abstract
In this study, in situ data and hyperspectral MIVIS (Multispectral Infrared and Visible Imaging Spectrometer) images collected over a period of 14 years were used to assess changes in submerged macrophytes colonization patterns in southern Lake Garda.Macrophytes colonization patterns were obtained converting the MIVIS at-sensor radiances into remote sensing reflectances and adopting a bio-optical model inversion technique. The inversion is performed by optimization techniques implemented within the software package BOMBER (Bio-Optical Model Based tool for Estimating water quality and bottom properties from Remote sensing images). The results show a considerable modification in terms of macrophyte structural complexity and colonized areas. The study indicates that macrophytes distribution along the littoral zone of the Sirmione Peninsula is certainly linked to water transparency and water level fluctuation.
