Title
Wireless Application Protocol Transport Layer Performance
Abstract
A simulation-based performance evaluation of the WirelessApplication Protocol (WAP) Transport Layer Protocol, whichmay be suitable for Combat Net Radio (CNR), is presented. Inthe simulations, the Wireless Transaction Protocol (WTP)Layer that is the transport layer of WAP is modeled in detailaccording to WAP Forum specifications. Wireless TransportLayer Security (WTLS) layer is excluded in this paper. TheUser Datagram (UDP) Protocol is modeled for the beareradaptation protocol of the transport layer of WAP. TheWireless Session Protocol (WSP) layer is modeled with somebasic features. The OPNET model of MIL-STD-188-220Bstandard is used for the bearer network of WAP. Some userprofiles are constructed for the application layer. These profilesare modeled implicitly with source generators and/or explicitlyby implementing their process model. These user profilessimulate FTP, HTTP and E-MAIL applications. The protocolsare simulated on "OPNET Modeler Radio". Frequencyhopping radios are assumed during the simulations.
