Title
Performance of Adaptive Equalization in Typical Indoor Environments Including Non-Linear Power Amplifiers
Abstract
In this paper the performance of offset 4, 16 and 64-QAM indoor radio systems that use equalization techniques are analyzed. We present results for both experimental multipath delay spread measurements and simulated channels. The results show that a system without any equalization technique presents a very poor performance even for low distortion levels. When distortion increases, the introduction of some kind of equalizer becomes necessary. However, the equalization techniques, which are able to compensate the ISI, present a limited performance due to the Rayleigh fluctuations of the signal-to-noise ratio. Furthermore, the degrading effect of non-linear characteristics of power amplifiers are analyzed. A degradation of about 2 dB in terms of signal-to noise ratio has been found.
