DAVID-E: A Collaborative Working Paradigm for Distributed High-End Audio-Visual Content Creation |
Abstract | ||

In the recent years the world has witnessed an unprece-dented expansion in the global audio-visual industry and actions have been initiated to strengthen its actors, espe-cially in filmmaking and video production. Companies seeking ways to improve their performance and produc-tivity and become more competitive are investing in mod-ern digital technologies. Very powerful high-perform-ance comput-ing systems are found today even in small produc-tion fa-cilities. Yet, little effort has been used to implement activi-ties other than production/post-produc-tion and even less, to integrate the whole cycle of content development and creation within a networked collabora-tive environ-ment. This paper reports the experience of the DAViD project aiming to establish ways to interact and collabo-rate dur-ing pre-production phases. Several bene-fits have been demonstrated, such as reduction of the overall pro-duction time and cost, increased productivity and in-creased ability to execute complex, multi-company pro-ductions in shorter times and lower budgets. |
