This paper investigates design issues which supportawareness in collaborative environments. The work wepresent is part of the POLITeam project, an ongoingresearch effort aimed at the development of electronictools to support the cooperation of German governmentsites distributed between Bonn and Berlin. The paperaddresses social, ethical, legal, and technical issueswhich form important prerequisites for the design ofawareness functionality in large organizations. Theseaspects have been identified as the result of a tightinteraction process among the systems developers andselected pilot users in a federal ministry. Based on theserequirements, we present the architectural model of theawareness service of the POLITeam system. |
