Title
A method for automated extraction of stomach fold regions from abdominal X-ray CT image and its application to virtualized stomachoscopy
Abstract
In this paper, a method for extraction and visualization of stomach fold regions from an abdominal X-ray CT image is proposed. This method can be used in a system for three-dimensional (3D) diagnosis of stomach. In extraction of folds region, the gray tophat operations, one of morphological operations, is employed. The extracted results are visualized on a virtualized stomachoscopy which has been developed by authors' group. The fold regions are indicated by overlapping them on the inner stomach wall by using the volume-rendering technology. In the experiments using nine practical abdominal CT images taken from a multi-slice CT, it was shown that the most of major fold regions could be extracted and observed very clearly on virtualized stomachoscopic scenes.
