Title
Detection of windthrown trees using airborne laser scanning.
Abstract
•Difference between two elevation models reveals windthrown trees.•Template matching automatically locates windthrown trees in the difference image.•38% detection rate at individual tree level evaluated on 651 field measured trees.•Aggregated to 40m grid cells, at least one tree was found in 77% of the cells.•Higher detection rate for larger trees and pine.
