We present a new approach for constructing a low stretch spherical parameterization. Given a closed genus-0 triangular mesh, we split it into two pieces with the help of the geometry symmetry traits. According to this split, a low stretch spherical parameterization can be obtained only by solving linear systems repeatedly in the unit disk. Furthermore, our method always yields bijective mappings. Experiments and comparisons for some typical 3D models reveal that our algorithm is robust and efficient. |
