An Embedded Real Time Remote Control System for Home Network
Abstract
Manual reboot is required in case of switch halt, and in-band management which through Simple Network Management Protocol is disabled. In case of switch failure, the system initiates a self-debugging procedure out-of-band via the console. When the breakdown is beyond the capacity of the self-debugging procedure, the system informs the network center via GPRS. This system has undergone testing in the wiring closet. The result suggests that for ten fault times the embedded system could reduce fault duration by 90 percent and the number of manual intervention by 8 times, compared to switch failure cases without the embedded system. This embedded system facilitates the real time remote control over the switch and the automatic restoration from switch halt and port malfunction, reduces switch fault duration and is therefore effective in cutting the workload of network administrators.
