Title
A new numerical approach to the design of foundation piles in laterally spreading liquefied soils
Abstract
In this contribution, a general numerical scheme is proposed aimed at simulating the lateral spreading of a liquefied soil mass, modelled as a viscoplastic Bingham medium, along with evaluating its impact on neighbouring structures by calculating the lateral loading exerted by the liquefied ground. An illustrative application of this approach implemented in a finite element code using the decomposition-coordination method by augmented Lagrangian is also presented.
