Title
Opportunities For Computer Scientists And Engineers In The Federal Government (Presentation Abstract): A perspective
Abstract
The Federal Government has been involved in computers since their beginnings. Accordingly, it has long been a significant source of job opportunities in the computer sciences. In addition, the Government has taken a stance in favor of both equal employment opportunity and affirmative action, and backed this position with laws and Executive orders. The panelist will discuss the current status of Federally employed women and minorities in the sciences. Opportunities, career tracks, problems and prospects will be addressed based on her experiences as a career computer scientist with a major Federal laboratory and an active member of that facility's formal EEO structure. Recent statistics and surveys will be cited in an effort to assess the current situation and identify future trends.
