The main challenge in parallel programming today is the development of techniques and tools that improve programmers' productivity. In the following, we shall introduce some features of the coordination programming language ALWAN and its programming environment which is characterized by properties such as high-level language abstraction, mixed language support, reuse of software, portability, and transparent multiprocessing. ALWAN has been implemented on several Unix and parallel systems such as: AP100, Cray T3D, Convex, Intel Paragon, and IBM SP2 and is currently being used in application work. |
