Title
Study on Modulation Transfer Function and Optical Characteristics of Printing Paper
Abstract
Image quality of print is dependent on the paper characteristic. The modulation transfer function (MTF) is usually applied to represent the light-scattering phenomenon for the analysis of the imaging characteristics of print and paper. In this paper, we study a new method for measuring MTF of paper——moiré technique, application of the technique is quite simple, besides does not require a high sensitive intensity detector and a very narrow slit for transmission scanning. Then we use a MTF-based spatial-spectral halftone predication model in order to analyze the relationship between paper-MTF and reflectance (or transmittance). Therefore, we can modify the paper characteristics such as optical dot gain.
