The Software Production Research department is devoted to experimental research in large software engineering. It was formed in the Fall of 1990 at Indian Hill, the Illinois complex that houses many large software developments including that of the 5ESS® switch. In this position paper I describe a key mechanism for interaction between research and development, sketch three activities within the research department, and make some observations about experimental software research. |
