Title
Using Predictive Dynamic Reservation Strategy For Cellular Networks In Downtown Areas
Abstract
In this paper, we present a new handoff and call admission strategy for cellular networks in downtown areas. The new strategy is a predictive dynamic reservation mechanism based on a probabilistic mobile positioning. The scheme uses probabilistic threshold values that are dynamically adjusted to cope with the predicted handoff from neighboring cells without causing an unnecessary new calls high rejection rate. Also, we evaluate different handoff and new call admission protocols for cellular networks in downtown areas. We use a Manhattan-like street topology and evaluate the following methods:. the traditional guard channel mechanism, an adaptive reservation mechanism and a new predictive reservation mechanism based on mobile positioning. The tradeoffs in the design of the latter method are explored, and performance and comparison results are presented.
