In this paper the optimal strategy that minimizes the number of overflows, underflows and memory traffic for the fixed-size, multiple-size and variable-size window organization is shown. Knowing only the program behaviour under a given size, the relationships among the organizations mentioned before and the different window sizes allow us to predict the program behaviour under several sizes according to the number of overflows, underflows and memory traffic. For this reason, it is possible to obtain different values corresponding to the different windows and registrer file sizes from the values obtained using the above mentioned strategy. At last, we show a comparative study on different organizations modifying window and register-file size parameters. Taking as input the obtained measures, it is possible to deduce interesting conclusions for the register window design. |
