Title
A Functional Model Of Cortico-Basal Ganglia Loop In Motor Control
Abstract
It is found by physiological and anatomical experiments that there exist basal ganglia(BG)-thalamocortical loops in the brain. One of the important functions of these loops is considered to be disinhibition and inhibition for the target neurons of the motor areas through the thalamus. Prefrontal cortex(PFC)-BG and supplementary motor area(SMA)-BG of these loops particularly play an important role in generating motor sequences and learning them in early stage. It is considered that the cell assembly existing in SMA and PFC may represent motor sequences, and the signal through the loops can modulate the cell assemblies with the inputs from higher areas. This paper proposes a functional neuronal model of SMA-BG loop which can modulate dynamical cell assemblies.
