Title
Intelligent control of QoS adaptation in next generation wireless broadband networks
Abstract
This paper highlights the differences in Quality of Service (QoS)definitions for wired high speed ATM networks and wirelessbroadband ATM networks. In particular, we highlight the issuesbehind QoS mapping and discuss several frameworks for QoSadaptation in wireless broadband networks. We explain the need forend-to-end adaptation and reveal how such adaptation occurs duringmobile handoffs. The instability and sensitivity problems occurredas a result of frequent handoffs and QoS adaptation are explainedand related to control theory. We provide several controlapproaches that will ensure stability in the network under suchcircumstances. It is important that future broadband wirelessnetworks must be able to offer network services and QoS assurancewithout causing network instability. This paper, therefore, revealpossible approaches to be considered in the design of futurebroadband wireless systems.
