Expression plays a key role in non-verbal communi- cations. Its understanding and the comprehension of the emotional content of musical gestures is an ambitious issue in the scientific environment, and several studies investigated on analysis techniques to detect expression in music performances. In this work, we focus on the ex- pressive content of violin and flute performances, inves- tigating on the expressions induced by the Kinematics Energy space and Russell circumplex model of emotion. By analysis on extracted audio features, we draw a set of parameters which describe performers' strategies and which are suitable for tuning an expressive synthesis in- strument and to enhance audio in interfaces for artistic productions, medical-therapeutic systems, mixed-reality environments for gaming and entertainment industry in general. |
