Visual queries based on schema graphs simplify the access to databases for technical and non-technical users who are not familiar with the database structure and don't want to use a formal language. We propose an assisting visual query interface for object-oriented databases called O/sub 2/Talk. The work is motivated by the successful adaptation of the visual query paradigm in the conventional database area. This graphical query representation system, facilitates the user's tasks of formulating database queries compared with linear textual query representations. The adopted human-computer interaction techniques in this visual query system and different graphical queries through a number of illustrative examples are also described. |
