Customizing Software Development Processes Based on the Project Properties
Abstract
Some of software development processes are so comprehensive that can be used in different projects and various domains. Tailoring and customizing these processes is necessary for using them in a project. That is, we should do some changes in the process and adapt it based on the project properties and developing organization capabilities. This paper deals with process customization based on the project properties. It intends to investigate what properties of a project should be considered during custornization of its development process, and how we can optimize the process according to the project properties. In this paper, we first categorize several properties of software projects. Next, we discuss the effects of each property on the configuration of development process and present some guidelines for process customization. Existence of such guidelines can help project managers to configure a development process for a project better and faster.
