Title
Applications exchange: A unified approach to enable services and applications for end users and service providers.
Abstract
This paper describes an innovative concept to manage applications and services beneficial to end users (EUs), service providers (SPs), content providers, and application developers. The implementation of the concept is explained through the description of a system called applications exchange (AE). AE features are beneficial to EUs, SPs, and equipment vendors. EUs can browse and choose applications using AE. The customer relationship management (CRM) interface lets EUs manage their applications' profiles. The SP can create and manage application and end-user profiles. This will enable SPs to rapidly offer new services in a targeted market segment and resell third-party services. AE enables an SP to intelligently match end-user service requests with available applications and feed the provisioning information to the service support systems. Network element vendors can hide the complexities of provisioning and configuration, and increase their revenues from pull through sales. Applications exchange is independent of the network technology that supports the services. Applications exchange provides a framework through which new applications and services can be offered, managed, and supported regardless of whether it is used in a wireline or wireless medium.
