This paper describes definitive and systematic rules for selecting HDTV still test pictures to be used for properly assessing high-quality factors. We extracted three elementary psychological factors: "vividness," "comfortableness" and "sharpness," dominating the impression of HDTV still pictures, by using `Semantic Differential Method.' And HVC-signal characteristics, in Munsell color space, correlating closely with these factors were defined as selection guidelines of pictures symbolizing high-quality TV. |
