How to obtain accurate and reliable motion fields is a key problem for motion-compensated (MC) interpolation in video coding. An improved pel-based motion estimation algorithm with smoothness constraints is presented. In order to cope with various moving objects and their complex motion, a hierarchical motion estimation algorithm is discussed. The experimental results show that the motion fields obtained are quite smooth and approximate to real motion |
