Title
An Efficient Admission Control Scheme for Adaptive Multimedia Services in IEEE 802.16e Networks
Abstract
IEEE 802.16e broadband wireless access (BWA) technology has many advantages and is one of the most promising technologies for broadband access. In order to meet the requirements of diverse multimedia services, it is necessary to provide quality of service (QoS) guarantee. Admission control (AC) plays an important role in QoS provisioning for wireless communication systems. However, IEEE 802.16e standard does not specify the AC scheme at all. In this paper, an efficient AC scheme is proposed for 802.16e networks by using its characteristics of supporting adaptive multimedia services. We design a performance analysis model for this scheme and evaluate the performance of this scheme using OPNET Modeler. Both analyses and simulation results show that the performance of our proposed AC scheme outperforms that of threshold-based admission control scheme in terms of the handover service flow dropping probability, new service flow blocking probability and bandwidth utilization.
