In this paper we compare domestic service robot systems and home automation systems with a combined approach where robots make use of the surrounding home automation and show the advantages and disadvantages of this combination. Home automation and smart home technologies as well as mobile service robots have become more and more accepted within the last years. Prices decrease and supply increases so both technologies become more affordable. It is a common approach to use separately either one technology or the other. A combination of both systems can make sense in various situations. We describe benefits and drawbacks by having a look at a mobility assessment experiment that is done by the robot, the smart home and both mixed. |
