The broadcast conventional TV and HDTV service for transmission on a broadband digital network is taken into consideration from the point of view of the source. An image coding scheme, using motion compensation and vector quantization and suitable for transmission on Variable Bit Rate Channels, and a model of the traffic source are developed. The need for generating cells with different priority levels and the data protection and refresh process are analysed in order to minimize quality degradation in the event of network errors or congestion. |
