Title
Estimation of Path Loss in Urban Areas Based on 1-Ray Model Using Building Coverage and Floor Area Ratios
Abstract
This paper is concerned with the numerical simulation for electric field distributions computed by the 1-ray model combined with the 2-ray model where we have introduced amplitude modification factor alpha, propagation order of distance beta and field matching factor gamma. First, we show that the path loss Lp can be determined from alpha alone, since beta depends only on the source antenna height. Second, we show that it is possible to estimate alpha in any propagation environments by the interpolation using path losses obtained by Hata's empirical equations for urban, suburban and open areas. Finally, we propose a numerical procedure to estimate alpha based on the statistical data, that is, building coverage ratio and floor area ratio in Fukuoka. Numerical examples are also presented for distributions of the modification factor alpha in the urban areas of Fukuoka.
