Title
IT-based development of the national disaster management system in Korea
Abstract
Countries all around the world are spurring their effort for the improvement of disaster-management systems in order to minimize human and economic losses resulting from disasters. In general, governments of developed countries have been providing advanced disaster prevention services to their citizens by integrating diverse systems/resources, while governments of developing countries have sought for ways to mitigate problems arising from lacking means to establish a comprehensive disaster management system. In the Republic of Korea, government has successfully found ways to use its strength, ICT, to aid in the disaster management effort. This research paper identifies how the technology has been integrated to serve in the field, and how developing countries may reduce impacts of disasters by understanding Korea's disaster management system.
