Title
Accessing heterogeneous databases on the semantic Web: A distributed description logics-based approach
Abstract
ABSTRACT In this paper, we propose a peer-to-peer architecture to access multiple databases. Our approach for accessing databases has two properties. First, it is based on semantics of database contents. So, each database is exported by a database ontology. Second, it is viewpoint-based access. Semantic heterogeneity is resolved from the viewpoint of each database. That is, each database ontology is connected to other database ontologies, by semantic relationships, depending to database viewpoints. Ontology and connection between ontologies are formalized using description logics. So, traditional description logics are extended to express relationships between two concepts of different knowledge bases. We propose an extension of description logics, as done for DDL - distributed description logics. Distributed logical reasoning are developed and used to infer more semantic relationships between foreign database tables.
