Title
Numerical simulation of standing waves in front of permeable structures.
Abstract
The hydrodynamic characteristics of the standing wave in front of vertical permeable structures are described by numerical flume in this paper. These permeable structures, such as pile type breakwater, are classified as low crest structures ('LCS') in coastal engineering. The phenomenon of partial reflection and partial transmission of wave around vertical breakwater is discussed and the aim is to afford an analysis tool of standing wave for engineering design and practice. It is concluded that present model shows a satisfactory agreement with experimental data both physically (Chen et al 2008, van der Meer et al 2005, Madsen 1983, Luth et al 1994) and numerically (Li and Yan 2005, Zhang and Li 2008), which proves present expression is of reference value to estimate transmission coefficient in engineering practice. © 2012 IEEE.
