The aged population and life expectancy has been increasing worldwide in the last years and this continues to increase. This poses a series of challenges to satisfy the care of elder people, to assure their quality of life and treatment of illness. Unfortunately, the current infrastructure is not sufficient to meet the emerging demand, so many of these people continue living in their homes. In this context, we propose a tele-assistance Solution to satisfy that demand. In order to take into account this new needs, we propose to extend the basic functions from a tele-assistance system (i.e. the patient is able to launch an alarm explicitly pushing a button if he needs attention from specialized staff) the use of algorithms from chronobiology to predict changes in vital signs or biological rhythm. Additionally we propose to prevent and predict illness via complex functions from advanced tele-assistance (such as detection of abnormal situations and falls from inference of the data from a set of sensors that the patient has over his body). |
