Title
Cross-Layer Processing Methodology of Wireless Sensor Networks
Abstract
So far, mainstream research of wireless sensor networks has been carried out in a bottom-up fashion, based on a layered approach. There are gaps between application requirements, processing algorithms, and networking mechanisms. The goal of this paper is to bridge the gap between the technologies for modeling, processing and networking, by investigating high-level cross-layer optimization techniques in a top-down fashion. In particular, the paper investigates the processing techniques for sensor networks, including query processing and fusion algorithms. The main issues involved in the design of optimal query processing and fusion algorithms, by cross-layer schemes that take into account more realistic models on task, data and environment, as well as the supports and constraints of underlying networking mechanisms employed are identified and discussed in detail
