Title
On Differential Power Analysis Attack on the Addition Modular 2N Operation of Smart Cards
Abstract
This paper proposes Differential Power Analysis (DPA) attacks based on Hamming weight under the (+ mod 2(N)) operation of the input data and a secret key when they are operated in the smartcards. The (+ mod 2(N)) operation of the input data and a secret key is used in IDEA encryption algorithm. Therefore we can attack the 32 bits of a secret key of IDEA by using the proposed method Experimental results in a smartcard confirm the practicality of the DPA attacks. And we propose a countermeasure to protect this operation from the DPA attack.
