This paper justies using explicit performance signaling in support of congestion control by means of a simple yet ecien t scheme called \Congestion Avoidance with Distributed Proportional Control (CADPC)". It thereby contradicts a common belief that no additional forward trac should be sent by such mechanisms. CADPC, which solely relies on rare bandwidth feedback from routers, is shown to outperform several TCP-friendly mechanisms and TCP \a vors" in various aspects in simulations; its robustness against RTT uctuations and loss from link noise makes it particularly well suited for heterogeneous network scenarios. |
