Constraints provide a powerful computational model to support designing, different from global optimization or rule-based decision-making. This paper reviews the theory of constraints and techniques of constraint management with respect to geometric road layout. We describe RoadLab, a constraint-based graphic programming environment, and discuss the application of the constraint model to designing. |
