Power Spectral Analysis Of Idiopathic Interstitial Pneumonias In High Resolution Ct Images |

The diagnostic accuracy for the idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) has increased greatly because of the improvement in high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT). However, the diagnosis of the IIPs is a difficult problem for radiologists because it has a variety of patterns. We tried to use a computerized analysis method for the image features of HRCT for three high-incidence groups of IIPs; idiopathic interstitial pneumonia/usual interstitial pneumonia (IPF/UIP), nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP), and cryptogenic organizing pneumonia/bronchiolitis obliterans organizing pneumonia (COP/BOOP). In CT images, each has characteristic manifestations: honeycomb opacity, ground-glass opacity, and consolidation. We analyzed them by using power spectrum analysis, and our system achieved a correct classification rate of 81.6%. (C) 2004 CARS and Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. |
