This paper proposes a viewpoint-driven simplification method for textured triangle meshes. Models used in interactive applications are usually composed of geometric meshes with textures. Thus, textures play an important role in the final aspect of the simplified models. This method considers the texture shape in the error metric. Entropy, a concept from Information Theory, is used in this error metric. We show in the experiments that this method produces simplifications that preserve textures better than the methods that do not take them into account. Therefore, great distortions when applying the textures are avoided. |
