Title
A 3D graphic environment for garments design
Abstract
This paper outlines a 3D graphic environment for industrial applications in the clothing industry. In a particular, it permits the design of a base garment in 3D, verification of its style through the comparison of different types of fabric on a virtual mannequin, and automatic generation of 2D patterns form the 3D representation. The system has been developed within the framework of the Brite Project MASCOT, whose consortium comprises two leading manufacturers of CAD/CAM systems, two research institutes, an industrial company specialised in made-to-measure systems, and three garment manufacturers as end-users. The main modules of the 3D environment are described, as well as the methodologies and techniques adopted.
