New Chessboard (8×8) Representation of the Standard Genetic Code, and Its Application for Representing Primary Structures of Proteins
Abstract
In the new genetic code chessboard representation, the 1st nucleotide of triplet codons is assigned to each of the four quadrants; the 2nd nucleotide to each of the 16 subquadrants; and the 3rd nucleotide to the 8脳8 = 64 cells of the chessboard, following in all cases the same clockwise ordering C-U-G-A. The result is an easily constructed and visualized representation of the genetic code that can be remembered by means of a mnemogram.
