We propose to use mobile agents to automate fault management in cellular networks. The simple network management protocol (SNMP) is the de-facto standard for management of wired networks. Since it is unsuited for wireless networks, we present a wireless network management protocol that is a better fit than SNMP for wireless networks with mobile devices connected to them. We focus on fault detection, diagnosis and recovery in cellular networks, and provide an agent-based framework for fault management. |
