Multi-threshold and signal trend forecasting algorithms for hand-off in cellular communications
Abstract
In this paper field strength profiles are considered as time series and the use of some prediction techniques in the hand-off process is examined in order to have meaningful handovers. Different forecasting methods are here considered taking into account parameters as memory size requirements, weighting factors and its effect on the mean square error as well as method applicability. A forecasting method is selected and the obtained results are used in novel handover procedures. This procedures use multiple threshold and take into account trend variation. Application results including effect on number of hand-offs are here presented and it was observed a reduction on number of hand offs for the examined profiles respect to methods that rely only on current field strength measurements.
